DawgMuffs are available in sizes small, medium and large. Additionally, they have 4 tabs across the top that easily adjust to your dog's head. To complete the fit, the elastic chin strap and neck strap have sliding buckles.
Once fitted, the cap simply slides on over the nose and buckles at the neck.
What was the process?

Beginning Development? Research!
The first step was to determine which materials to use. Using a simple home-built digital sound chamber, dozens of materials were tested, both individually and in combinations, to determine their ability to reduce decibel levels. It was decided that we could cover a broader range of frequencies by using a combination of layers because various materials block or absorb sound differently. The next consideration was to determine the ability of the materials to softly conform to the head. They needed to be able to easily wrap around the entire ear area. Finally, another material was chosen to give the cap a slip-resistant quality.

Anatomically Designed
Humans can wear earmuffs because our ears are on the flat part of the sides of our heads. That isn't true for a dog. A dog's ears are located where the skull begins to curve behind the head. Therefore, we designed DawgMuffs to gently conform and wrap around the ears from front to back. The six points of adjustment assure the proper fit needed to effectively reduce noise levels.

Clinically Tested
To truly determine the effectiveness of DawgMuffs, testing was conducted at a leading university veterinary school. Two Doctors of Neurology used a non-invasive test called BAER, which stands for Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response. A dog's movement during testing can affect the results, so the doctors tested dogs that were already anesthetized just prior to being spayed or neutered. Continue reading for the results.

The BAER Test Results-
BRAINSTEM AUDITORY EVOKED RESPONSE
The test consisted of recording the brain's response to bleeps of sound emitted through headphones. First, readings were taken without DawgMuffs, beginning at 70 decibels and descending to 20 decibels. Next, DawgMuffs were put on the dogs and the test was repeated, beginning at 70 decibels. While wearing DawgMuffs, every dog's brainstem showed no measurable response to any of the sounds emitted.
The successful tests led to further research which were presented at the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Forum in June of 2025.

Our Story

WHY DAWGMUFFS?
WE FLY WITH OUR DOGS... A LOT. Over the years, we have had several dogs suffer from hearing loss due to the loud engine noise in the plane. We tried available hearing protection, but they either didn't fit, or the dogs simply knocked them off. Also, we weren't confident that they were actually protecting our dog's ears. So, my husband started me on a quest to develop a device that would solve those issues.
DAWGMUFFS are working for us, and we believe they will work for you.
